Shared custody calendar: how to get organised

A useful calendar is one that both parents read the same way.

Choose a shared start date

Pick a week you both agree on and write down the date it starts. The whole rotation is counted from that date. It is safer than a colour code whose meaning nobody remembers.

Check a month together

Go through every handover and every activity in the month. For the school holidays, start from the official dates: Service Public publishes those for 2026-2027 and 2027-2028 (still incomplete for Corsica and the overseas territories in 2027-2028). For an exception, say clearly whether it moves a single weekend or shifts everything after it. Do not leave this unsaid.

Keep one up-to-date version

Agree on how a change is confirmed and where it is written down. Parentello’s shared custody calendar can be that reference. You can also set out the calendar in a parenting agreement (convention parentale): Service Public provides a template (form cerfa 16139*01). Once approved by the family court judge, the agreement becomes enforceable.

Your questions

Is a colour code enough?

Not quite. Add a letter (A or B) and a written key: the calendar stays readable when printed in black and white, and for people who find colours hard to tell apart.

Can I print a first custody calendar?

Yes. The free generator lets you print six months of calendar or save them as a PDF.
